2011 Thanksgiving

2020 is an unusual time in our nation and at the farm. Because we can’t all meet together this year, in addition to our virtual meeting, you may want to take 15 minutes and go back to 2011 to enjoy, Faye, Uncle Murray, Uncle John, and Stan at the farm along with lots of turkey and ham. The video is just snippets of the day to spark the warm memories that we all have of that very special place. The video ends with a trip to the pond which is becoming more accessible again with the controlled burning by Paul and John recently.

Virtual Thanksgiving Gathering & Farm Meeting

It’s that time of year again when Mark starts gathering ingredients for his famous oatmeal cookies and Jan looks for her coleslaw recipe. With the pandemic we are planning a gathering on Sunday after Thanksgiving, November 29 at 3:00 p.m. EST. We will gather to catch up,  share surviving the pandemic stories, make a group photo,  (one with masks and one without)  and have our annual farm meeting.  Bring your favorite dessert .  I hope everyone will come.  Please send me an email at abrawls@gmail.com and I will send you Zoom credentials.

Christmas at the Farm, 2019

It was a wonderful gathering of family Christmas week. Gary, JoAnn and Aunt Rebecca arrived early. Andy and Malinda arrived Friday in time to join John and Linda along with Karen and Silas for a tour of Andalusia Candy Land with “ice skating,” and “snow.” There were giant ornaments and even a tree house. Louis arrived Sunday. JoAnn and Aunt Rebecca kept us all fed. Sue along with Margie, Matt, and the twins Jonathan and Ethan (4) arrived the day after Christmas. Bill and Kimi came for a late lunch on Thursday along with Yashiko and Marvin. On Thursday morning Jeff and Sue along with Amelia from the Chicago area arrived followed by Jeff’s brother Jim.

The Day-After-Thanksgiving Family Gathering at the Farm

On this bright sunny day, 29 descendants of Walter B. Langford and our friends gathered at the spot he settled his wife in 1913. He had bought clear-cut land from a timber company and began clearing the stumps to plant a crop. He raised cotton, corn, soybeans and seven children on more than 100 acres of rolling Alabama countryside. On this day family members came from Texas, Florida, and Alabama bringing food for “dinner” and a desire to reconnect with each other in a place that is sacred ground to us all.

The family and friends included:
Andy & Malinda
John & Linda
Paul (Jan was ill)
Catherine & Robert  & Emma (almost 2)
Gary & JoAnn
Kemper, Dave, Estelle (almost 3) , Ainsley (almost 1)
Aunt Rebecca
Charles & Celena with nieces Josie, Carly, Gracie, Ella, Hannah
Craig
Greg, Najla and the boys Jackson and William
Mark and Jeanie
