Stan Rawls

Stan Rawls died on Saturday, April 23 after a two-year illness.  A celebration of his life was held at Sardis Church in Monroe, AL on Tuesday, April 26.  Stan loved photography and many of his photos are incorporated into the tribute prepared for the service.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Dorothea

On the way back to Louisville, I stopped to visit with Uncle Fred and Aunt Dorothea. Uncle Fred was in good spirits.  Aunt Dorothea was feeling tired having just come home from the hospital this week. They are not able to travel these days, but I’m sure they would appreciate a note or card.

2015 Thanksgiving at the Farm

It’s that time again to gather at the Farm on Friday after Thanksgiving. We will plan to eat at 1:00 p.m. as usual. Please bring a dish and your appetite. I’m bringing spiral cut ham and green beans and Joann and Aunt Rebecca are bringing turkey and dressing with gravy.

We will have our regular family farm meeting after lunch and a group photo as usual. It promises to be another great time to catch-up and welcome new family members:  Kemper’s Dave and Chris’  Lisa and Aliyah. Sue reminded me that there were two other additions to our family on October 20th.  Margie had twins, Jonathan and Ethan who will be coming home from the hospital this week.  Sue will be caring for babies in Greenville and won’t be able to make it this year.  Susan, Gabe and James are in Japan but sent their best wishes for a great time.  Craig & Desiree are unable to come because they are caring for Aunt Dorothea who will be released from the hospital on Monday.

Here is the list I have of the folks who will be present on Friday and when they will be arriving.  Please send updates to abrawls@gmail.com.

Thanksgiving 2014

It was another great day after Thanksgiving  at the Farm.

It had been ten years since Jordan joined us so he had the honor of carving the turkeys JoAnn baked.  James is looking on after peeling all the sweet potatoes for the casserole.

There was lots of help in the kitchen. Malinda baked the ham.  Celena made her pudding dessert and Susan baked all those sweet potatoes James peeled.

Soon folks were filling their plates with ham, smoked turkey, dressing, sweet potato casserole, green beans, squash casserole, apple coleslaw, ambrosia, and lots of desserts including Mark’s famous oatmeal cookies.

We filled three tables in the dining room.

We set places for 12 in the living room. 2-P1350643

The food was great, but the conversation was better.  It started around the tables and continued to the living room, porch and even out to the cars as folks left at the end of the day.

It was a good to get the know the newlyweds, Chase and Callie, who were married on October 11.  Chase is working for a 4H camp and Callie is teaching special education.

Look for posting about a Farm Work Day early in May.  Some of us plan to gather again on July 4th for a cookout.  Hope to see you all next year for our gathering Friday after Thanksgiving.
